THE STRANDED ARAPAWA.
— ■«*— NOW IN BETTER POSITION. A further attempt to ' refloat the Northern Company's steamer Arapawa, which stranded on the Waitara Bar on August 3, was made on Saturday, without success. Although the vessel was not refloated her position was improved. The salvage operations resulted in turning her bow seaward and placing her in a position where she rests entirely on a sandy bottom, clear of the-boulders. She was also moved bodily seaward about 35ft. Another attempt was to have been made yesterday and the Rimu, which so far had not been used in the salvage operations, was kept at Waitara for that purpose.
