ROTORUA BURGLARY.
POST OFFICE ENTERED.
ABOUT £550 STOLEN.
GREATER PORTION RECOVERED.

ROTORUA. Monday.
When the Rotorua post office was opened this morning, the safe was found to be open having been unlocked. Two cash boxes were missing, one containing about £500 in cash and cheques, and unissued postal notes. The document* in the other were valued it about £50, chiefly in stamps. A cabinet in the safe had been unlocked and locked again. It held duplicate keys and other articles, which had evidently been tampered with, but not taken.
Soon after the discovery of the burglary the cash-box, containing £500, was found in the yard of th-a Tourist Department, adjoining the postal premises. It was unopened, and the contents were intact. It was laid beneath a tree, and an empty benzine tin had been placed on it, partially concealing it.
