LIVERPOOL BY-ELECTION.
COALITION CANDIDATE WINS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Herd. 9.45 p.m.) LONDON. Mar. 13. Rear-Admiral Sir W. R. Hall, Coalition candidate, defeated the Labour candidate in the by-election for the West Derby division of Liverpool. West Derby was carried at the general election by Sir F. E. Smith, the then Attorney-General, who has since become Lord Chancellor, and been granted a peerage with the- title of Lord Birkenhead. Rear-Admiral Sir William Reginald Hall has held the positions of Director of the Intelligence Division, Admiralty War Staff, and Naval Assistant to the Comptroller of the Navy. At different times he commanded the Cornwall, Natal, and Queen Mary.
