WAIHI MINING DISPUTE.

SEEKING A SETTLEMENT. ACTIVITIES OF MR. GILES. [by teleoraph.— correspondent.] • WAIHI, Friday. Mr. T. Harle Giles is visiting Waihi at the request of the Minister for Labour, 3Jid, strictly speaking, not in his capacity as conciliation commissioner. His mission is in connection with an endeavour to bring about a settlement of the trouble existing between the mining companies and the Miners' Union. Last nignt tie met the union representatives and heads of the mining companies. This afternoon he met those miners who, in accordance with the agreement between the union and the companies, have exemption from joining the union. This evening he is again meeting the union representatives. Up to the present no settlement has been reached. It is expected that the result of Mr. Giles's intervention will be known to-morrow.
