WAR SCHOLARSHIPS.

TARANAKI SCHEME. As the result of a suggestion originating with the Board of Governors of the v ew Plymouth High Schools, the executive of the Taranaki War Relief Association has decided to 'found scholarships or bursaries for the benefit of children whose fathers have gone to the front. The matter was brought before the association m August and discussed. A report was brought down, but a doubt was raised as "to whether the rules of the association were extensive enough to cover this class 08, assistance, and the matter was adjourned. At a meeting the executive amended the ruins in the direction required, and; adopted the proposed conditions of the scholarship, with a few amendments. It now only remains for the Minister administering the War Funds Ait to approva of the amendment to the rules, and, in view of a recent statement of the Minister for Internal Affairs regarding war funds, there should be no difficulty in this direction.

Either boys or girls of soldiers aro eligible to bo'd the scholarships, providing they reside within the Taramtki Provincial district. The scholarships may bo held at any secondary or high school in Taranaki. Three are' to be awarded for the ensuing year.
