AWARDS FOR BRAVERY.

AUCKLAND SOLDIERS DECORATED. Sergeant George B. Cooper, who has been awarded tho Military Medal fur gallantry on the field, left New Zealand in April, 1916, with the eleventh reinforcements, and preceded to Egypt, thence to France, where ho was attached to the Canterbury Infantry Battalion. He was wounded in the first Homme battle, in September, 1916. On recovering from his wound he joined the 12th. Nelson, Company, in May, 1917, and has sinco been continuously on active service, taking part msomo very heavy fighting. Sergeant Cooper, who is the* youngest son of Mr. W. <rl. Cooper, of Leslie Avenue, Morning, side, was, prior to his enlistment, farming at VVakanui, Canterbury. Corporal Robert Phillips, the eldest son of Mr. V. W. Phillips, of Greenwood's Corner. Epsom, ha.-: been awarded the Military Medal for gallantly on the field of action. Corporal Phillips was born at Aratapu, and educated at the Onehunga school and the Auckland Grammar School. Prior to joining the forces he was engaged in the chief telegraph engineer's office. Ho left New Zealand with the eleventh reinforcements, attached to the Otago Infantry Battalion, and took part in the first battle of the Somme, in 1916. Advice was received yostorday by Mr, A. Meaney, of Waiwera, that his son, Lance-Corporal Anthony D. Meaney, has been awarded tho Military Medal, for bravery on the field of action. LanceCorporal Meaney is 21 years of age.
