POST-WAR ACTIVITIES.
GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE.
PROBLEMS FOR PARLIAMENT.
Referring to post-war problems and the responsibilities of the Government in regard to them, the Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister for Customs, stated yesterday that, as was well understood, the National | Government was brought into existence I primarily for the purpose of doing every- ' thing possible to win the war. When its ' activities in that direction were disclosed, as they would be at some suitable oppori tnnity, he thought it would be the general ! consensus of opinion that its record from 1 every point of view had been most satisi factory. , . ! With regard to the diversion of activii ties from Var matters to post-war pro- ' blems, the Minister said it must be re- ! membered that, owing to the limited period spent by the two leaders in New ; Zealand between the time of their return ' from the Imperial War Cabinet and Con- ■ ference and their departure for the Peace ; Conference, the necessary authority was ' obtained for Parliament to carry on for ' the balance of the present financial year. 1 However, the next session of Parliament, i which, it was to be hoped, would be held !at the usual time, would deal more | vigorously and effectually with the allimportant questions of the opening up of I lands, active prosecution of public works I and railway extensions so essentially { necessary for a young country only par- - tially developed and with a limited popuI lation which had already taken upon its ! shoulders its full share of responsibility I in connection with the carrying on of the war.
