LOSS OF CHEMIN DES DAMES

A German officirl wireless message states : Between St. Etienns and the Aisne we withdrew to positions on both sides of Grand Pre. The Americans attacking with strong forces all day long between •Sivry and Haumont Wood, were beaten back in bitter fighting. Our newly-arrived troops are in fighting contact with the French and Servians south of Nish.
A later report states: West of Douai we retired to prepared lines. We frustrated a British attempt to break through in the direcion of Valenciennes. The enemy gained a footing in Iwuy. We evacuated the Chemin des Dames.
An Austrian official message states: We evacuated Pribrend and Pristina, on the heights north of Leskovatz. The Germans engaged with the Servians and behind the army front had frequent engagements with. enemy bands.
