BUILDERS' LABOURERS.
■f i DEMAND FOR NEW AWARD. -| ~~ The dispute between the Auckland General Labourers' Union—builders' labourers' sec- .j tion—and the Auckland Builders' Associa- i'ii tion and others was dealt with by & | conciliation council yesterday. The com- ip missioner. Mr. T. Dane Gii«, presided. The assessors for the union were Messrs. W. '<;< Wadded. F. Lee, and W. F. Peart; and for the employers, Messrs. W. Bail, Thomas Julian, and S. Clark. Mr. George Baildon : | was advocate for the employers and Mr. A. F. O'Neill for tho union. The union asked for an increase in wages for builders' la- | bourers from Is 2d to Is 8d an hour, and for '3 1 men erecting scaffolding, in charge of derricks, or wheeling material up to and on | scaflolding from Is 2d to Is 9d an hour. > The present award provides for an all-round ■wage of Is 2d an hour, plus war bonus of 10 r*»r cent., for all builders' labourers, irrespective of the work performed. The union also asked for amendment of tho clauses re- '< lating to general conditions. The council considered the matter in com* ; - mittefl. satisfactory progress being made. The sitting wi'l be resumed this morning.
