CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUED. A further stage in the Auckland Hockey Association's championship was reached on Saturday, Mount Eden defeating Arete, and University beating Edendalo Old Boys. MOUNT EDEN V. ARETA. Areta opened the attack from bully, but ft free hit brought play baok to mid-field. Eventually, Alexander oleared, and Mount Eden invaded, getting first a corner and then a score, Alexander having accepted » centre, and placed a fast shot in the net. Aretii attacked and a free hit somewhat hampered operations, but the Areta pack were soon back again. After a spell of fast, exciting play, an offside by Laver gave Mount Eden a free hit, but the shot hit the post. ■ Paice relieved the situation but hit too hard, and Areta still hammered at the Mount Eden defence, but failed to penetrate. In the second spell a scoop by Yorke made some progress for Areta, but Alexander countered. The final score was:— Mount Eden 1 Areta .. , 0 Messrs. Killip and Partem were referees. EDENDALE 0.8. V. UNIVERSITY. University broke away from the opening bully, the inside left going through to the Edendale circle, where Hall cleared. An interval of give and take play followed, until from a free bit at the Edendale twenty-five, Waddingham scored the first for University. University still attacked and after a brief tussle outside ( the Edendale goal mouth, Aplers nipped in and scored. Prom ft throw in at their own twenty-five, the Ecjendale pack beat their opponents to the circle where Davis scored tho only try for Edendale. Training College hockey team visited Pukekohe on Saturday, and after a hard game defeated tho local team by 8 goals to 0. Bindon, Macken, and Druramond scored for College. Messrs. Reynolds and Carr were referees.
