NOTES ON THE RACING. [by IffiEGBAPH.—OWN COEKESPONDEN*.] WELLINGTON. Sunday. ■ The racing on the concluding day of the Wellington meeting was full, of interest, and the contest for the big steeplechase will long be remembered. Backers opened disastrously when the little-fancied Master Boris defeated several well-backed candidates in the Hack Hurdles. Kahumanga, Reformation, Delage and Golden Prince were all evenly backed. At the first fence, Parky fell and Golden Prince led Reformation, Delage and Kahumanga down the back. . Golden Prince had a good break, but 'at the half-mile Master Boris pulled to the front and from this out •he never looked like getting beaten. Gwynne. Kahumanga, Reformation, **"*<>. and Undecided were in a bunch at the last : fence, but Undecided beat the others in the,, run home, though ho did not get near Master* Boris. Kahumanga was . third and then came Faraoa. Golden Prince, Reformation and Delage. ' ■ Tip Up saw a very short price. in the Liverpool Handicap, the other runners being Comparatively neglected. The favourite. and ' Sardinia were prominent into the straight,, where Form Up swept along on the outside end paid a dividend not usually associated with ahorse of. his class. Sardinia was three lengths away, and then came Aleme Poto, with Fleetham fourth. ' •.-'.' Onnesby was a very pronounced order in the Hack Steeples and he duly won. He led nearly the whole, way. Master Harmlton and Arlington were handy, but the Southern torse fell at tie four furlongs post, leaving. "favourite with a big .break. Gaekwar ran to the last fence with him and appeared have the measure of. the Trentham horse, but Flynn was very vigorous at the finish and Otmeßby got .verdict by a neck.Arlington was some distance away. The Crofton Handicap saw tho triumph of the Aucklander, Bug of the Valley, who was unlucky on the opening day. McFlynn always nad him in a good position, and, taking charge inside the distance, he won easily from-Hastie and-Manu. Glucian was left at the post. Qninn's Post, Classification, and Momao led down the back but Justification was first into the straight. Ha3tie took charge, but* King of the Valley was handy and won easily. Justification was fourth, then came Warmth and Black Hill. Royal Prince finished, last. ' There was a sensational finish In the July Steeples, in which Bon Reve,; St. Elmn, and Coalition crossed the judge in a line. The top weight was a good favourite. At the start Diavolo, Memo Lad, Marten, and Moddite were prominent, with the favourite and Zarkoma in the rear. The jumping was perfect over the first round. With a'mile to go Diavolo was still in charge, with St. Elmn and Moddite clear of the others. Coalition and the favourite were moving up, and four furlongs from home Diavolo fell back,- . and St. Elmn and Moddite jumped to the front, with Coalition and Bon Rove next. ■ At the wicker fence Moddite gave way and Coalition joined St. Elmn, while'Bon Reve came fast on the inside. The two former rose at the hencoop just in front of Bon Reve, but the. latter made a splendid jump and equalised matters. Once over, whips were produced on the trio, and in a wonderJul finish Bon Beve won by a neck, with St. Elmn a head in front of Coalition. Moddite was. fourth. Zarkoma fell. Sir Agnes, with Gray in the saddle, was backed down to a very short price in the Winter Oats, while there was plenty of money for Bagdad and Detroit. Prince Delaware made the running to the half-mile where Tressida and Multaiue shot to the front. Once in the straight Sir Agnes appeared on the scene, white Bagdad and .Detroit also became prominent. The three-year-old compounded quickly, and though Detroit challenged the favourite lie could make no impression, and Gray's mount won nicely. Kiltcss, who got off badly, was third and Bagdad fourth. Considerably over £3000 was invested on the Kemball brackot in the Final Hurdles. Most people relied upon Gladful to win, but the Birkenhead gelding jumped very badly and lost ground at every fence. Thrace and Wishful went out in front, but the Aucklander shook Wishful off with five furlongs to go. Gladful then ran into second place, but he jumped the last two fences badly, and though he made a great effort in the straight Thrace won by three lengths. Styrax was a poor third. There was a big turnover in the concluding event, and when the machine closed there was just under £10,000 invested. Royal Park was the favourite, but the betting was very wido. Piano was first into the straight and looked to be winning, but Fleetham and Omahu both beat her i.a the run home. King of the Valley was saddled up a second time but finished badly. JOCKEY'S APPEAL.
