VISITS TO WAR PRISONERS.

STRANGE CASE IN ENGLAND.

WIFE OF AN M.P. INVOLVED.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON. June 19.

(Reed. 11.30 p.m.)

The newspapers are giving prominence to a curious court-martial. Lieutenant Canning was accused of criticising his commanding officer because the latter allowed ladies to pay unauthorised visits to Baron von Plessen and Counts Metternieh and Netherblad. who are interned at Wakefield. The evidence showed that Mrs. Leverton Harris, wife of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Blockade, secured a Home Office order to visit von Plessen alone and without supervision. She took parcels with contraband goods. Lieutenant Canning was acquitted.
