GROWING GERMAN AGGRESSIVENESS IN THE UKRAINE.

RUSSIANS SHOW TENDENCY TO OPPOSE OPERATIONS. Eeuter. (Received 5.5 p.m.) MOSCOW. May 11. * . * A new Government, composed of Cadets and Octobrists, has ..been formed in the Ukraine, M. Oustimvitch being Premier and M. Rernatsky, formerly a member of the Kerensky Cabinet, Finance Minister. Moscow reports state that the German Ambassador .has ,■ sent .an; ultimatum to the Peoples Commissaries demanding the disarmament and disbandment of military units and the occupation of Moscow' and other cities in Great Russia] The Germans have established a rigorous censorship at Kieff. The police raided the residence of Professor Grouchevsky, president of the Central Rada, intending to arrest him'. They also attempted to arrest M Salikoviky, the Government commissary at Kieff, but both escaped. The newspapers are full of descriptions of the irruption of German soldiers into the Rada with the members and the public standing at the pistol point with their hands up. The President, M. Crushevsky, alone protested. The efforts of the Ukrainian Ministers and the Rada to secure a compromise with the 'Germans proved unavailing, the German Ambassador at Kieff replying, It is too late.". The new Ukrainian Hetman, Skoropadsky, in a manifesto, issued on assuming office, told the Ukrainians that they owed their salvation to the Central Powers, who were invincible. The manifesto does not mention peace with Russia- It is therefore assumed that the Ukraine will continue operations against Russia. Germany informed the Foreign Commissary that in view of the change of Government in Ukraine the peace delegation to Ukraine must be radically reconstituted, and Kieff, not Kursk, be the scene of pourparlers. • Australian and N.Z.
