SECOND GERMAN AIR RAID CAUSES SIX DEATHS.

MACHINES DRIVEN BACK FROM INNER. CITY. INCREASING EFFICIENCY SHOWN BY DEFENCE SYSTEM. Australian and N.Z. and Reuter. (Rood. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 30. The Press Bureau announces: Three people were killed and 10 injured in last night's air raid. It is feared that six other bodies were buried in the wreckage of a house. About 15 hostile aeroplanes delivered the attacks. None penetrated the capital. A group crossed the Isle of Thanet and proceeded to London, but gunfire turned them back. Simultaneously three or four crossed the Essex coast, but failed to penetrate the outer defences. A single aeroplane later passed round the north and west of London and dropped bombs on the south-eastern outskirts. Simultaneously another bombed the north-eastern outskirts, where there were no casualties or damage. Gunfire later turned back the others between London and the Kent and Essex coasts. Three or four engaged in the final attack between 11.30 p.m. and midnight. They were equally unsuccessful. There were a few casualties in the south-eastern outskirts. Our aeroplanes engaged the enemy machines. All of ours returned. Australian and. N.Z, Gable Association. LONDON, Jan. 30. • Tuesday night's raid has proved. that London is growing increasingly difficult to approach. The Gothas attempted to pierce the fierce barrage, but most of the gunfire was distant, showing that the enemy ha I been worsted. They were finally forced to accept the inevitable and fly seaward.
