SWIMMING.

AKARANA CLUB'S GALA. A swimming carnival, including two water* polo matches, was held last evening in the Tepid Bathe, there being & good attendance. The Novico Handicap, t in which several youthful swimmers participated, was won by D. M. Stewart, who, however, was disqualified for starting before his time. Some good play was witnessed in the ladies' polo match, Devonport winning by 3 goals to 1 against Akarana, the scorers being Misses Bolton, Leary, Biddick, and 0. Phillips. The 75yds championship of Auckland was contested by only two men—Jack Parr, fWaikato champion, and J, Enwright, a returned soldier and ex-Taranaki swimmer. After a good start Parr obtained the load, being in the fore almost to the end of the first length, but Enwright crept up slowly, and eventually won by a narrow margin. A fine exhibition of over-arm and brcast-stroko swimming, and of diving was given by Miss Edna Champion, aged six, who appeared quite at homo in the water.
