SHIPS SUNK IN CHANNEL

TORPEDO AND COLLISION. SIXTEEN LIVES LOST. Australian and N.Z. Cabla Association. (Reed. 1.35 a.m.) LONDON. Jan. 30. The armed escort vessel Mechanician was torpedoed and subsequently stranded in the English Channel, on January 510, becoming a total wreck. Thirteen lives were lost. The torpedo-boat Hazard was sunk in the English Channel on January 29, as the result of a collision. Three of. the crew were lost. The Mechanician was a steel twin-screw steamer of 9044 tons, owned by the Charente Steamship Company, of Liverpool.
