STATUE ON SUEZ CANAL.

LONDON. Jan. 21. Mr. Bertram Mackennal, the sculptor, has commenced work on the marble equestrian statue which is to be placed on a site on the Suez Canal, to commemorate the Australian dead. Major-General Chaavel's force has given a day's pay, aggregating £500, towards the cost of the work, and the Suez Canal Company has granted a site on the bank of the canal at Ismailia.
