OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.

TWO BUILDINGS DESTROYED.

Wednesday. • Fire broke out early this morning on the 11 premises of the New Zealand Coffee and Spice Company, Durham Street. The out- -! break occurred on the first floor, which . ! was completely gutted, a large quantity of i J spices being destroyed. The efforts of the i' brigade prevented the fire from spreading , ' to the ground floor, and all the company's i' stock of coffee was saved. The insurances , : are :-*Stock, £3300, and plant £400, in . the Northern Office; buildings, £900, in I the London and Lancashire Office. The , | company's loss over stock is estimated as '. i being considerable, but the buildings are II not damaged. , Later in tho morning a fire occurred in la block of buildings in-Manchester Street, . I next to the Excelsior Hotel. It started at ; the back of a fruit shop occupied by Miss • Garland, which was badly damaged, t"' i getl.er with the first floor, but the brigade prevented the fire from spreading. I A fire early this morning totally ' destroyed Mrs. Kalberg's accommodation house at Poumuvea, together with all the contents. Recently the illness of the pro- , prietress and her principal assistant compelled the former to close down the establishment, which was, therefore, untenanted at the time. The origin of the j outbreak is a mystery. The damage is I estimated at £1200, against Which it is

said there is an insurance policy for £2(XA bucket-brigade prevented the flames from spreading beyond the- building.
