Weiss gave w. Abotomey 2000 start in | 8000 and "won by 961 points; S. E. Williams and Fred Lindrum, starting level, .played a.' drawn game, the scores being; Lindrum 17,139, Williams 14,710; George Gray defeated F. Lindrum by 1135 points in a level 16,000; F. Lindrum reversed matters by winning the next match on similar terms by 207; Fred Lindrum and Gray played six matches of 14,000 up, each winning three; 1 Walter Lindrum conceded 6000 in 18,000 to Abotomey and won by 3438; a level game of 8000 up between Abotomey and Campbell was won by the former by 1300 points; a level 16,000 up between F. Lindrum and Gray resulted in a drawn game, Lindrum 15,195, Gray 11,580; Abotomey defeated W. Stephenson, the New Zealand professional champion, at Auckland, by 400 in a match of 8000 level, and J. R. Hooper won the New South Wales amateur championship, defeating G. Shailer by 870 in 3000 up; E. W. Warren won the New Zealand amateur championship by 1070 points from W. Hackett in the final of 2000. The Cryst&late Cup competitions were won by E. Goodhew. Auckland, E. Con/jdon. Wellington, and H. Seideberg, Dunedin. The longest game on record without a rest was played botween two well-known English amateurs. Messrs. Pretty' and Bain, who played a match for 25 consecutive hours. Pretty scored 5190 to his opponent's 4035. A pedometer carried by the winner indicated that he walked 241 miles in the course of the game.
