DERELICT SIGHTED.

SUPPOSED AMERICAN" SCHOONER.

What is supposed Jo be a derelict was sighted recently between Tulagi, in the Solomon Group, and Nauru, by one of the Burns, Philp, and Company's Island steamers. The derelict was apparently that of an American schooner, with two stumps of the leasts showing above the water. News was subsequently received from the Gilbert Group that a quantity of redwood timber had been washed up on the islands. Hundreds of feet of the timber drifted ashore, and was secured by the natives. The timber had only been a short time in the water, and had evidently come from . some lumber-laden vessel. Tho natives of the Gilbert Group were turning the timber to some account, latest advices being that they were, actively employed building canoes out of the redwood. '
