SETTLERS TO SHARE COST.

HAMILTON. Tuesday. The policy of the Public Works Department in regard to the metalling of country roads was stated by the Minister, Sir William Eraser, in speaking to Mr. J. A. Young, M.P., yesterday. Sir William said that, in future, lie would not authorise the expenditure of any Government grants for road metalling, even though they appeared on tho Estimates, unless the settlers interested were also expending some of their own money on the work.
