KAISER AND THE CHURCH.
BIRTHDAY MESSAGE. TRIBUTE TO THE ALMIGHTY. A. and N.Z. AMSTERDAM, Jan. 24. In acknowledging the Court preacher's birthday greetings, the Kaiser telegraphed his deep thankfulness. " I commemorate to-day, ' ho said, " God's great deeds for tho German people. He has given historical successes to our colours and removed many sorrows, and kept the Fatherland through distress and privations. 1 hope our Church will help me after we havo victoriously finished tho war, in peaceful competitions with other professions, to hea! wounds, conciliate controversies, and unite' and strengthen our people in enthusiastic and unselfish devotion to the Fatherland. Mv special sympathy is -with the* great tasks set equally before the Church and Stale in the reconstruction of family life and the education of a -fearing and healtlA young generation worthy of their fathers."
