WIN FOR WELLINGTON.

MARGIN OF EIGHT WICKETS. Tire Wellington-Auckland representative cricket match was concluded yesterday at Eden Park, Wellington winning by eight wickets. Although hopes of a fine day wero entertained, clouds camo up, and rain started at about eleven o'clock. The wicket was■ sticky and unfavourable to the batsmen, especially during the afternoon.

Wellington, who, at the eloso of Saturday's play, had no wickets down for 27 runs, continued their innings, Wilson and Hiddleston being at the bat. Wilson faced Simpson, and after sneaking a single of! the second Dal!, prepared for a careful spell. Middleton relieved Smith at the bowling crease. The change was effective, Middleton's second ball upsotting Lusk's slumps. 71—4— Crawford's Fine Stand.

Crawford now entered into partnership with Baker, and the score soon mounted to 93, when McMath missed an easy catch from Baker. Sneddon bowled vico McMath at the southern end, Lusk driving his third ball to the off boundary, Baker soon brought Tip the century. Snedden bowled a maiden over, in which Crawford seemed to be nonplussed. Baker drove Middleton for a four, and Crawford pulled Snedden to the boundary, raising the total to 118. When 124 was reached Taylor took over Snedden's end, and the field spread out. A no-ball was sent in by Taylor, Crawford driving it to the boundary. Crawford pulled Middleton for 6, bringing 138 up.

A double bowling change now took place, Smith and Sinjpson replacing Taylor and Middleton. The scoring began to slow down, Smith troubling the batsmen. Singles brought 150 up for close on two hours' play. Baker hit out, the ball going up 'to Hemus, who misjudged the catch, a boundary resulting. Crawford then drove Simpson to the boundary, and along the carpet for 3. A stumping chance was given Lowry, who failed to take the ball. Play recommenced with Middleton' bowling to Crawford, who took a single off the fourth ball. Smith's first over added a single to Crawford, who next reached tho boundary with a late cut. Midlane was fielding well, saving some likely fours. Crawford drove Smith twice to the boundary, making the score 185. Crawford soon opened out after a spell of slow scoring, and drove Smith into the stand for 6. Baker raised the score to the double century by. glancing Middleton to leg. Crawford next pulled Middleton for a brace, and drove him over the bowler's head to the boundary. Hemus relieved Smith, and five men were placed on the boundary. _ The batsmen declined the Auckland invitation to hit out, and were content with safe singles, until Crawford brought Wellington's score past the local total—2lß— driving Hemus three times to the boundary, and to leg for a single. This brought him his century.

Crawford and Baker Dismissed. A double bowling change brought McMath on in place of Middleton, and Simpson vice Hemus. The latter beat Crawford and the wicketkeeper, four byes resulting. Crawford drove hard at Simpson, and smashed his bat from the handle in two pieces. A full toss from McMath was sent to the boundary by Baker—his first for over an hour. Singles and occasional boundary hits brought the total to 260 for three hours' play. Dacre was now deputed to bowl vice McMath. Tucker brought 300 to the board for four hours' play. The end came next over Condliffe went out to hit Smith, and Lowry took the bails off, thus closing the innings for 308. Auckland's Second Innings. | Auckland commenced their second innings after the afternoon tea adjournment. Hemus and Midlane taking strike to Crawford and Bruce.
