PREPARATIONS TO EVACUATE LENS REPORTED.
BRITISH VICTORIES 808 TOWN OF IMPORTANCE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. NEW YORK, Oct. T. The Geneva correspondent of the New York Times states that it is reported that the Germans, as a result of British victories in Flanders, are preparing to evacuate" Lens, which has lost its importance as a strategical point. General Hindenburg will take this step shortly. The populations of Roulers, Menin, Warneton ( and Lens are being forced to labour on German defence works.
