THE BOARD OF TRADE.
° ! \ PRICES OF MEAT AND GRAIN, j [BY TELEGEAPII. — CORRESPONDENT.] \ , CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. < The Board of Trade made further in- i quiries in Christchurch this morning into 1 thtf position of the meat trade. The mem- ( hers of the board left for the South at j ihid-day and will not return until October i 20. The butchers in the meantime havo £ agreed to bear the charges fixed until the ' board's inquiries are completed. Since the arrangement was made with the butchers, the board has received many complaints as to the high prices of meat in Christchurch. Definite complaints have been made that people cannot buy frozen meat from the butchers at the prices agreed upon. It is ' stated that the butchers, when asked for frozen meat, simply state they do not sell it and customers have to buy fresh meat for which high rates are paid at Adding- * ton yards. These complaints are being in- ti vesti'gttted by the board. s 1 On its southern tour the board will tl visit Timaru, Oamaru and Dunedin. Its a work there will be mainly in connection fj with the wheat question, especially the „ Government's purchase of the 19i7-1918 c ■ crop. The Minister for Agriculture has instructed it to consult farmers, millers {,] and others. It is probable that a con- p ference of the wheat trade, representing 0 all parts of thy South Island will be held to go finally into' the question with the d board, p
