SHORT LIST OF CASES.

When charged in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., with being 011 licensed premises on a Sunday, and also entering licensed premises while prohibited, Ernest B. Baird said his little child was ill and he went to the hotel to get some brandy, but the licensee refused to serve him.

Mr. Frazer: Oh. yes I've heard that several hundreds of times before. Sub-Inspector Broberg said accused had denied being at the hotel, and this was the first time the " child and brandy" had been mentionedTelling the defendant to find a more novel excuse next time, the magistrate fined him £1 and 7s costs on the second charge, and ordered him to pay 7 S costs on the first charge. Albert Branchfield, a Bailor, who was said to never work, was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment for being absent from his ship without leave. Frederick Myers was fined £1 and 7s costs for working a horse while it was suffering from a sore shoulder. Two first offenders were fined for drunkennpss.
