SEVERAL LOCAL ACTIONS IN THE YPRES SECTOR.

FRENCH AND BRITISH IMPROVE POSITIONS. Australian and N Z. and Beater. LONDON. August 15. A report from Sir Douglas Haig states: After heavy artillery and rifle fire we repulsed enemy attacks east of Westhoek, three miles east of Ypres, and near the Pilkem-Langemarck road. We improved our positions on the right bank of the Steenebeek River, north-east of Ypres. The French gained further ground northwest of Bixschoote, north of Ypres. We repulsed raiders east of Klein Zillebeke, three miles south-east of Ypres. Stormy weather and heavy rain continue.
