THE CRYSTALATE CUP.
Two gamis were played in the Crystalate Cup tournament yesterday. In the afternoon W. E. Hackett met C. Armitage, and managed to beat his opponent quite easily. He made a fine all-round break of 63, which secured him a good lead. Armitage made a plucky effort to catch him, but was outgeneralled by his more experienced opponent. Hackett made breaks of 63, 20, 45, 49, and 21; Armitage's best were 28, 30, and 20.
In the evening session E. W. Warren met W. Hackett in the semi-final. As was anticipated, an interesting game was witnessed. In the first 100, both players kept together, playing safely, with neither getting the advantage. Warren got in with a nice 57, mostly off the red, and was leading by 46 when half-way was reached. He increased liia lead with two more breaks of 43 and 21. iiackott missed badly at this stage. A little later he improved his position with a 38 break, but could not get near Warren till well into the last 100. Both men were level at 460, and it was anybody's game at this stage. However, Warren managed to keepin front, and struggled home a winner by 23 points. The winner made breaks of 27, 23, 5", 21, 43. 23. and his average was just over 6; Hackett's best were 20, 20, 38, 20. 57, 27. E. W. Warren plays Goodhew this evening at eighti o'clock, in the first session of the final.
