ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

—;♦ ■ / PROPERTY AT CAMBRIDGE. A meeting of the council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, was held last evening. The deputy-chairman, Mr. C. A. Whitney, presided. There were also present: Messrs. C. H. Culpan, W. A. Johnston, C. E. Hardley, J. Cullen. L. Hammond, A. McKinnon, and B. Grayson. The president, Mr. R. Reynolds, forwarded a plan of certain lands at Cambridge, which he considered should be secured, if possible, and added to the society's reservation. Nine of the allot- • ments were Crown lands, and it was de- : cided to ask Mr. H. H. Ostler to en- : deavour to obtain a long lease of them. The secretary reported that he had written the Consul-General at Shanghai asking • him to assist the society to secure stubble i quail to the value of £100. The Minister for Internal Affairs wrote : that the society's application for 200,000 i rainbow trout fry would be granted at the ; same rates as last year. After considering a report by Mr. L. : F. Ayson, Government inspector of fisheries, on the suitability of English gray- I ling for stocking purposes, it was resolved 1 to ask Mr. Ayson which fish he would re- i commend for liberation, especially in the I Northern rivers. Mr. J. Cullen was added to the comj mittee to consider the boundaries of the bodies affiliated to the society. A committee, consisting of Messrs. Cullen, Hammond, Whitney, and Grayson, was appointed to consider what benefits • would he derived by societies in the • North by the formation of a combined < game farm, for the purpose of supply. 3 The curator reported that all the birds 3 were looking well.
