FLOODS IN VICTORIA.
SIX PERSONS DROWNED. A. and N.Z. Cable. MELBOURNE, June 8. The King and Ovens Rivers are in flood. Near Wangaratta. a cart, loaded with rescued people, was swept away, two men and Mrs. Richards and her two daughters being drowned. A few hours later another man was drowned at the same spot. The rivers are still rising. CAUSE OF THE COAL STRIKE. SYDNEY, June 8. Mr. John Doyle, president of the Political Labour League, and Mr. Thomas Mutch, M.L.A, sued the Sunday Time; for £2000 damages each for alleged libel in an article imputing that plaintiffs engineered the coal strike. A verdict for defendants was returned in each case.
