CITY ORGAN RECITALS.
j Sir,—l read in the Herald a few days { i ago that the City Council had invited , Mr. Mauglian Barnett, city organist, to , be in attendance at the next meeting when the question of organ recitals would Ibe discussed. In Sydney town hall I organ recitals-are held weakly, but the « ' hour set is 12.15, and admission is free. : j Could , not the Auckland City Council: I adopt the • same course ? I am sure itj | would be worth while. In Sydney on i such'days the hall is packed. Why? ( Because the business people have an opportunity of being present at such a convenient hour. The same would apply to Auckland. The audience which used to attend the Saturday night recital here was a nlere handful, and I think that if the council would . institute a free weekly recital at "the hour suggested the Town Hall organ would be made good use of instead "of now being enclosed in the " glass cage." If one of our benevolent' citizens was good enough to make the city such a fine presentation it is too bad that it should be used so little. R. Reade.
