RUSSIANS CAPTURE AN ISLAND IN THE DVINA.
ENEMY ATTACK WEST OF RIGA REPULSED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON', Jan. 9. A Russian communique states <; We threw back an enemy offensive west of Riga, and captured an island in the Western Dvina River." A German communique states: "During a heavy snowstorm the Russians recaptured Glaudon Island, in the Dvina, north of Illutsk. An attempt against the west bank of the Dvina failed."
