Mb. H. C. Hill, of Nelson, is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Henry Blackman, of Wellington, is staying at the Grand Hotel, Mr. and Mrs. K. P. Wright, of Vancouver, are staying at Stonehurst. Mr. I. Faris, who arrived from Wellington yesterday, is at the Central Hotel. Mr. L. M. Buchanan arrived from Christ - church yesterday, and is staying at tl a Star Hotel. Mr. Kelly Smith, ol Singapore, arrived from Wellington by yesterday's second express, and is staying at Cargen. Mr. H. P. Farrell, of Wellington, arrived by yesterday afternoon's express. He is stopping at the Central Hotel. The Rev. J. B. Brocklehurst, of Hastings, came to Auckland by yesterday first express, and is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Herbert Ross was a passenger from Wellington by yesterday morning's express, and is staying at the Central Hotel. Mr. W. H. Hemingway, president of the Auckland Automobile Association, has left on a visit to Australia by the Niagara. Mr. F. W. Flanagan, Valuer-General, arrived from Wellington by yesterday afternoon's express, lie is at the Grand Hotel. Lieutenant Graham Cruickshank, an old Auckland boy, son of the late Mr. William Cruickshank, who is serving with the Canadian forces, has been promoted to lie rank of captain. Lieutenant H. Masterton Clark, v.-ho was recently invalided from the front, left for Wellington by last night's Main Trunk express train. He was in charge of the Whangarei quota of the twenty-sixth reinforcement draft. Judges O. E. MacCormick and J. W. Browne, of the Native Land Court, left Auckland bv the Mouowai last night for Tokomaru Bay, where they are to deal with a case affecting the title to a block of land in the Tokomaru Bay district. News has been received by Mr. S. .Hill that his son, Leslie Hill, has been granted a commission on the field in France. Lieutenant Leslie Hill,'who left Auckland with the Main Body Expeditionary Force, was well known in the City and Taranaki football circles prior to his enlistment. Mr. W. Hanson, one of the local preachers of the' Methodist Church in, Auckland, will be 93 years of age on January 12. He received a special vote of congratulation from the Auckland central circuit on Monday evening. Mr. Jiar>son's Connection with the local church dates back to the time when it met in High Street, in the building now occupied, by the Stamp Department, and he is still hale and actively engaged in pulpit work. The Hon. Dr. R. McNab, Minister for Marine, became suddenly ill a few days ago, and is in a private hospital in Wellington. A temporary rearrangement of his portfolios has been necessitated. The Hon. W. H. Hemes is to act as Minister for Marine, and the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald as Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts. The Hon. A. L. Herdman will take over the Justice and Stamp Department, and the Hon., Arthur M. Myers the Public Trust Office and th& Government Life Insurance Office:
