SLOT TELEPHONES.
NUMBER TO BE INCREASED.
The matter of increasing the number of slot telephones in the • city formed the subject of an interview yesterday, between the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, and Mr. It. B. Morris, chief inspector of the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr. Morris pointed out that it was the policy of the Department to install these machines wherever they would be freely used, and arrangements were under consideration for supplying these telephone* in greater numbers in Auckland at an early date. There were many prominent places in Queen Street where slot telephones would be of great convenience to the public, and the success of the machines erected at the post office and railway station was conclusive proof of the willingness of people to avail themselves of this means of communication. Air. Gunson expressed himself as fully of the same opinion, and gave the assurance that so far as the City Council was concerned, they would welcome any such increase.
