STEAMER'S NARROW ESCAPE.
Ik crossing the . Wairoa- Bar recently Captain McNab, of the steamer To Aroha, had an exciting experience. While taking the bar "straight on" the vessel was soon in difficulties, and thrown up on the beach. Here she was washed by the increasing sea, and Captain McNab deemed it advisable to jettison about 30 tons of her cargo, which consisted of coal. This proved successful, as about midnight - tho following night (the fresh in the river as the .result of tho rain assisting matters), ; the Te Aroha floated inside the river, and sailed up to .the freezing wharf. 38Rr^-:-.'■>.,/,-■•■ ■•••■: : .-'i
