IMPORTANT RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE ON THE SERETH.
AUSTRIANS ADMIT THAT IT IS ON A GREAT SCALE. Australian and X.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, Jan. 8. Writing in the newspaper Echo de Paris, the French critic, M. Marcel Hutin, states that the Russian offensive on the Sereth, is important. General Ludendorff, Chief of Staff to General Hindenburg, calls it an extricating offensive, but the Austrian Marshall Hofor admits that it is on a great scale.
