AUCKLAND WEEKLY NEWS.

TO-DAY'S^EDITION, PRICE SIXPENCE. BRITISH ARMOURED "TANKS'" i CLEARING THE TRENOHES. TERRIFYING THE GERMANS. STRIKING PICTURES. MANUFACTURING HUGE CANNON. INTERIOR OF ENGLISH FACTORY. GREAT FIRE AT HAMILTON. THE PREMISES IN FLAMES. CHILDREN AT THE SEASIDE, ENJOYING THE HOLIDAYS. J NEW ZEALAND VIEWS. MISCELLANEOUS SUBJECTS. To-day's issue of the Auckland Weekly News contains a variety of very interesting illustrations. One of the most striking of the pictures depicts the British armoured " tanks " clearing a trench during the Somme offensive. A vivid impression of what these monsters are like '•''hen in action is thus obtained, and the terror which they inspired among the Germans can be easily realised. A photograph is also reproduced, showing one of the tanks heaving its bulk across the stricken battlefield, while a party of German prisoners, under guard, help to carry a British wounded soldier on a stretcher. Several other views also deal with the allied activity on the western front. An idea of the tremendous activity of the British in the production of munitions is conveyed by a view of the intend, of one of the great ammunition factories in England, showing huge guns in course of construction. In addition to the war subjects, a fine range of other illustrations form interesting features. There is a splendid view of the great fire which took place at » Hamilton last Friday afternoon, and the flames can be seen raging about the factory premises, which were burned to the ground. A very happy page is devoted to snapshots of New Zealand .schoolchildren enjoying their summer holidays at I the seaside, while other illustrations also have a holiday touch appropriate to the season. A very fine full-page picture, which demonstrates "the beauties of the New Zealand bush, s will merit apprecia- . tion, as will also a magnificent glimpse of the Haurski Gulf at eventide. On account of the particular New Zealand interest attaching to the issue, it will be gladly welcomed by our soldiers abroad*
