TO-NIGHT'S CONCERT
j A concert in aid of the funds of the Ladies' Benevolent Society is to be given lin the Town Hall to-night. The winter season has been a harder one than usual for the aged and the poor, and the society stands now in urgent need of that financial i support which alone will enable it to • I pursue its -work of relief among those I who so sorely need it. A number of popn- , lar items are included in the programme ito be given. Lieutenant Shayle Gardner, ' who comes to Auckland with a high i reputation from English and French I theatres, will be heard in the casket I scene from the " Merchant of Venice." ; n j which Miss E. Holland will take the • part of Portia, and in a selection from j Sir Herbert Tree's play, "The Ulti- ,! matum." The vocal soloists will be — , I Madame Chambers. Miss L. Walker, Miss ' R. Kino. Messrs. W. Atkinson, and E. , Drake, while Mr. Frank Parsons will contribute items. The accompanists will be Misses E. Holland. M. Oliphant. and C ' Wood.
