AN AUCKLAND DIVISION.
CONSTITUTION ADOPTED.
PROVINCIAL ORGANISATION
A meeting of the newly-formed Auckland division of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society was held at the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. The Mayor, Mr. J. H. GuneOn. president of the division, presided. The draft of a constitution was submitted and adopted. The oojects of the. division as set out in the constitution are to supply hospitals, ambulances, vehicles, clothing, comforts, etc., for the sick and wounded in the time of war, to aid the sick and wounded, to enrol qualified persons into voluntary aid detachments for home service and to co-operate in the work of the St. John Ambulance Association and to render assistance in cases of great public disasters or needs. The division shall consist of all branches formed within the province, the head office being in the city. The minimum annual subscription is 2a 6d. Every provincial branch shall elect annually its officers and committee and furnish reports to the division. It shall be competent for the committee, for the purpose of war work, to amalgamate with the Auckland branch of the St. John Association, and to delegate its powers to any joint committee so formed. The annual meetings of the society shall bo held in August of each year. Mr. A. A. Martin was elected hon. secretary, and Mr. (5. Wallace Hews hon. treasurer of the division. Twelve representatives were elected to represent the division on the joint committee of the British Red Cross and St. John Ambulance Association in connection with provincial war work. A large general committee was also appointed. These matters will be submitted for confirmation to a meeting of the division to bo held at the Town Hall at three o'clock on Tuesday next. The appointment of vice-presidents will also be completed at that meeting. The Mayor, in speaking of the. movement la.-t evening, said that the division just formed was the first and only branch of the British Red Cross Society 'that had been formed in Auckland. The division had obtained a good start, and organisation work throughout the province would be put in hand immediately. Arrangements would be made for the effective utilisation of all existing organisations which hitherto have carried on Red Cross work, but without the authority of the parent organisation. It was anticipated, added the Mayor, that Red Cross work would receive a considerable impetus from the formation of the new organisation.
