OHIXEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL. FROM OUR Ore CORRESPONDENT. At the monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council the tender of P. Sheehau for forming and culverting the old Tauransa Road, was accepted at the sum of £72 12s 6d. Rates for the current year were struck as follows:—Ordinary rat«, lid in the £ on the capital value; hospital and charitable aid rate, S|d in the £. -Mr. Laughhn. on behalf of the settlers of the \waiti Biock, said that it had been decided to endeavour to raise a loan of £1500, and to apply to the Government, for a £ for £ subsidy up to £1500, to metal three miles of road through the block. The council decided to assist it: the proposal. It was reported that an effort had been made to foim a committee to carry out a recruiting scheme, but only one person had attended- No action had, therefore, been taken. A public meeting was held in Paeroa recently for the purpose of reorganising and stimulating patriotic work in Paeroa. An association was formed entitled the Paeroa District War Relief Association the object being to raise and expend fund? for war relief purposes. The following officers were elected - - President, Mr- W. J. Towers, Mavorsecretary. Mr. A. H. Wilson; treasurer. Mr. R. W. Evans- For other offices 11 members were proposed, and the folio winwere elected: Messrs. 1,. Cassrels f. Cochrane, J. Couper, D. W. Dunlop' M. J. Harris, W. J. Potter, W- Turner. Nuise Odgers, and Mesdames A. H. Wilson. D. J. Evans and Frogley.
