Is* a statement filed with the official assignee William John Houston, blacksmith, of Grey Lynn, a bankrupt, sets down his liabilities as £160 14s. owing to unsecured creditors, and his assets as £34 18s, made up of stock in-trade, valued at £19 18s. and book debts, estimated to produce £25. A deficiency of £125 16s is thus shown.

The debtor says that he carried on a business as a blacksmith, in Karangahape Road, for 43 years. The, business was payable until two years ago, when the profits decreased owing to the price of material being raised on account of the war. He was then employing two men and a buy, but he afterwards dismissed one man. However he was ultimately compelled to tile a petition in bankruptcy. He has re cently been put to considerable expense foi repairs and drainage work in connec ion with his business premises. He attributes his failure to the war, decrease of trade, and his ill-health.
