ENROLMENT MOVEMENT.

POWER-BOAT MENS ATTITUDE.

The movement undertaken by Captain Whitney for the enrolment of volunteers from the mercantile marine in New Zealand for service with naval motor-boat controls, and in particular Captain Whitney's remarks published in yesterday's Herald, were commented upon yesterday by Mr. C. H. Palmer, commodore of the New Zealand Power-boat Association. " While no doubt Captain Whitney has received many applications for enrolment in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve from persons who understood he had the necessary authority, he is," said Mr. Palmer, " incorrect in stating that he has compiled a complete roster of the available- men. There are many yachtsmen and motor-boat men, belonging to the New Zealand Power-boat Association and other yacht clubs, who are anxious to join in a service where their yachting experience would be of undoubted value, and who will enrol when a properly-constituted authority set up by the New Zealand Government invites them to do so."

With regard to the letter written by Mr. J. F. Wallers, on behalf of the yachtsmen of New Zealand, as president of the "New Zealand Yachtsmen's Volunteer Naval Defence Forces," Mr. PaJmer said: "There is not the slightest authority lor Mr. Wallers to write for the yachtsmen of Auckland, let alone of New Zealand. If there is such a body as the xt W , _ Zealand Yachtsmen's Volunteer Naval Defence Force' it is unknown to most yachtsmen of Auckland. We know there exists a body gazetted as the " Auckland Yachtsmen's Naval Rifle Club,' but as a defence force it has no right to speak for the yachtsmen of Auckland whilst organisations like the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association, Roval New Zeaand lacht Squadron and the New Zealand Power-boat Association are in existence.
