KEPULSE OF LOCAL ATTACKS IX CARPATHIANS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. PETROGRAD. August 14. A Russian communique states: "We drove back an enemy attack on the west bank of the Stochod River. Our advance on the I'pper Sereth, west of Tamopol, continues. The enemy retired westward after fierce artillery firing from behind a fortified position which had checked our advance. We arrived before the Zlota Lipa, and continued our pursuit, reaching the north bank of the Dniester before Mariampol. We repelled local attacks everywhere in the Carpathians." Australian and N.Z Cable. (Received D.55 p.m.) PETROGRAD. August 14. An official report says : The Russians forded the River Lukh, a tributary of toe Sereth, and expelled the enemy from a series of trenches. We crossed the Zlota Lipa at several points. Our offensive north-west of the Dniester continues. We captured the village of Tustobaby in the face of terrific fire from well-prepared trenches. helgian cyclists and armoured cars rendered distinguished service in assisting in the capture of Zborov."
