GERMANY'S CAMPAIGNS.

CLAIMS TO SUCCESSES.

A. and N.Z. Cable. LONDON. August 8.

A German communique states: " Between the Ancre and the Somme our curtain of fire checked heavy British attacks, which broke down astride the Albert-Bapaume Road and east of Trones Wood.

"The French made seven attacks between Maurepas and the Somme, but only succeeded in penetrating Monacu Farm. A French advance was repulsed at Barleux and Estrees.

The French on the right bank of the Meuse got a footing on Pepper Ridge and the front trenches southwest of Fleury. The French were heavily repulsed at Thiaumont and south-west of Fleury.

"The Russian attacks on the Kovel-Sarny railway and Brody were repulsed."
