Sir Douglas Haig reports: "During the night the work of consoliatang the ground gained and the opening of communication trenches . as con tinued. Our guns were active and the enemy retaliated briskly the evening firing upon Maltzhorn farm, near Longueval, and also «Pon the woods at Mametz, Fricourt, and Becourt, and the village of ozieres.
