The portion of the Outer Domain upon which the Exhibition buildings stood two' years ago has been to a, great extent trans. formed by the work which has been car.. ried on by the City Council during the" last few months out of the funds provided from the proceeds of the great fair. Soma 20 acres of what was formerly hillside has been made level, and planted in grass, to mako additional playing spare for the inhabitants of the city. Tho scheme for the children's playground has yet to be taken in hand. Out of the original Exhibition profits fund and its interest earnings there still remains in the hands of the council a sum of £1032, apart from the £3003 ear. marked for the winter garden. Yesterday the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunso., conferred with Mr. George Elliot, who v is president of the Exhibition, in regard ( the winter garden proposal. Mr. W. H. Gummer honorary architect in the matter, has the plans for the building well in hand, and it is hoped that in about a month or six weeks the joint committee of the council and the Exhibition will be called together to approve the final draft, and authorise the invitation of tenders.
