OLD COLONISTS' MUSEUM.

Sir,—During tho holidays I took the opportunity of inspecting tho Old Colonists' Museum, which was opened last month. May I congratulate the City Council upon tho very fair collection it has got together. The exhibition of old prints is especially fine. As yet the gathering of objects and curios is meagre, but time, no doubt, will cure this. I regret that at the opening ceremony no mention was made of the part played by the previous council and others in creating the lpu-oair.. No doubt this omission was accidental. I remember that when, a<» Mayor, I first* brought the matter before tho council in 1913, the old coi&oil was unanimous in its resolve to get a collection of old-time curios. When tho Elam School of Art vacated the Art Gallery, the present rooms were reserved by the council for a museum, and the Old Colonists' Association was then drawn into the sobeme. Of the old councillors, Messrs. H. Shaw, John Court, and Robert Tudehope -were particularly keen in helping forward the movement, and as these gentlemen have retired from public life, I think it right that wo should record their efforts in support of tho new museum. Lastly, tho New Zealand Herald was one of the first to suggest and back the idea, and gave the old council encouragement to proceed with the work. Q J. p ASB
