MINING NEWS.
GOLDEN BELT. i The manager of the Golden Belt mine,, Novesville, reports that the reef in tho slopes at No. 1 level is looking exceptionally well, and the ore broken is of good grade. Tho rise from the south end of tho stopes is now irp 20ft, and there is a great improvement in the reef. A class of oro similar to that at the north end of the reef is now being obtained hero. Tho oro crushed during the week was of good payable quality. OCCIDENTAL CONSOLIDATED. During the four days worked last week in the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, there was very little chango in the country. At No. 6 level some good dabs of gold wero seen in the quartz from tho drive on No. 2 reef. In tho stopes on both the Occidental and No. 2 leaders the ore continues to show good dabs of gold. In the drive from tho winding chamber at No. 4 level, No. 2 reef has" not. yet been met, but some nice-looking leaders showing a little gold were passed through. WAIHI EXTENDED. Tho work of sinking tho shaft in thct Waihi Extended mine, Waihi, is being continued, and sft wore taken out last week. The shaft is now down 65ft, and a good class of country continues to be mot with. There is now a good supply of air for ventilation, and no trouble has been experienced from water. The manager reports that tenders are now being received for sinking the shaft another 50ft. WAIOTAHI. Tributers at theWaiotahi mine, Thames, continue to work on the old battery tip. NEW SYL7IA. During the past week air-pipes have been put in position on the north face in the New Sylvia mine, Thames, and when the motor is fixed it will be possible to continue the drives and stopes. The manager reports that in the stope north of No. 3 rise the reef is opening out, and is becoming difficult to hold. The reef in the stope between the winze and No. 3 riso is well mineralised. South of the winzo one stope is being worked. Tho reef here is 6ft wide, and heavily mineralised. The crosscut in the hangingwall portion on the Norfolk reef was advanced 16ft, but no change has taken place. Tho drive on the reef was extended 3ift; the reef is small and tho country hard. HAURAKI REEFS. Tho report of tho manager of the Hauraki Reefs mine, Coromandel, states that stopine over No. 3 level was in progress last week, and about 81b of picked stone were obtained from good general dirt. Good country continues in the No. 3 level face, but tho reef is still shpwing small. The Wynyardton winzo is down 12ft, and a fine reef in good country is showing. A promising-looking reef is also showing in the faco on tho Wynyardton level going east. The erection of the Wilfley table is completed, and crushing was commenced on Monday.
