PARENTAL CONTROL LACKING." A case involving what- Inspector Mc« Ilveney described as " a deliberate lack of parental control,' was heard in the Juvenile Polico Court yesterday, before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M. A lad of 144 years was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, in that be had insufficient means of support, and further, with stealing from an oil launch at Cox's Creek, Ponsonby, an February 27 and 28, a Waterbury watch, valued at 20s, a Oct. gold chain, valued at £7, a heavy greenstone mounted in gold, valued at £4, and' a silver sovereign case, the property of Piro Grace. I In outlining the case Sub-Inspector McIlveney said tho lad was the son of a tram conductor. Ho had run away from his home a week ago, and his father and mother had not made the slightest attempt to inquire into his whereabouts. The lad had gone to Cox's Creek, and after stealing tho articles had borrowed a punt and rowed over to dirkenhead. Constable Beddek had mado a search for.the lad, and on Monday uad found him sheltering under a piece of canvas at Kauri Point. The lad was soaked through, and was in a state of semi-starvation. Tho mother was away on a holiday now, and although the father had been given notice he had not thought it worth while to attend Court. " Tho case shows a deliberate lack of parental control," added the subinspector. t The boy was committed to the Weraroa Training Farm.
