SINKING OF THE MALOJA.
CAPTAIN'S STATEMENT. VESSEL GOING ASTERN. (Received March 8, 11 p.m.) London, March 3. At ' the inquest concerning the death of the victims of the P. and O. steamer Maloja, which struck a mine off Dover and sank, Captain Irving said that considering the speed the vessel was going astern, it was marvellous that so many were saved. If he had been able to stop the ship, probably all would have been saved except the victims of the explosion.
